My daughter Rachel has carved out an illustrious career for herself as a professional belly dancer and dance teacher, and has become famous for her interpretation of "American tribal" style, which decoded means free-form.
This weekend she was teaching and performing at a downtown hotel in San Bernardino, an hour's drive away from me. I went both nights, even though she only performed on Friday, since this kind of opportunity doesn't come up very often. Saturday night we watched the program and hung out behind the merchandise table.
A friend of mine once said, during a breakup, that that's when you find out who your friends really are. And be assured, my daughter and I are good friends.
